Brief Research Description
I am a Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology, with research focused on population-based epidemiology of chronic diseases, with particular emphasis on social inequalities in health, sex differences, and the role of diet and lifestyle in disease prevention and healthy ageing. My work relies on large prospective cohort studies, including the EPIC study (https://epic.iarc.fr/), and aims to investigate disease incidence, progression and survival through advanced statistical modelling.
A central component of my research is the integration of epidemiological approaches with molecular and multi-omics data, to elucidate biological mechanisms underlying chronic diseases and their interaction with environmental, dietary and social determinants.
My activity also includes a strong translational component within healthcare settings, contributing to the design, analysis and interpretation of population-based studies and to the evaluation of prevention strategies.
Overall, my research bridges population epidemiology, molecular mechanisms and data science to support more precise and equitable approaches to chronic disease prevention and longevity.
